Habit stacking
If you haven't yet heard of the term 'habit stacking' it's well worth a deeper dive when it comes to your health and wellness efforts. Essentially, habit stacking is about attaching a new habit to an existing one you already do almost automatically.
Take eating, for example: going for a five minute walk immediately after eating an evening meal might be a good example. Or, after you get into bed at night, try to develop the new habit of thinking of one thing from the day you are grateful for.
With habit stacking, start small, repeat consistently and don't forget to mentally celebrate when you've successfully completed a new habit!
Some more habit stacking examples from my current clients involve doing 5 squats after brushing their teeth in the morning; putting the fork down after taking a bite of food (to ensure proper chewing); doing ankle circles after getting into bed or guided meditation on first waking up.
Can you think of some other examples of habit stacking you might find useful to add to your day?
